Start with the applicable entitlement
The statutory minimum is 30 calendar days of annual paid leave. Dates are agreed under the applicable rules and employees must know them at least two months ahead. Agreements may improve the entitlement.
Choose the right counting method
Calendar days and working days are different units. Give the policy a clear name and explain what a request will consume. Ask your adviser to confirm how the agreement applies rather than copying another company’s settings.
Separate the request from the decision
A request describes what the employee would like. Approval describes what has been agreed. Keep those states visible so a manager does not publish a rota based on an unresolved absence.
Review the people around the request
Check who else is away, which work centre is affected and whether the published schedule needs a change. Use the same period in both views so the comparison is useful.
Try the workflow in SLNTask
Create a fictional leave balance, submit a request and review it from the company account. Consult the decision from the employee account. Complete this small exercise before asking the whole team to use a new process.
